It is an irrefutable fact that solar eclipses are amazing.

And you don't have to do that much digging for proof. Gizmodo's Matt Novak shared this tweet today, which led me to searching for the above video. It's a 10-minute clip collection from ABC News' coverage of the last large-scale total solar eclipse to be seen in the lower 48 U.S. states. The event occurred in February of 1979, and the path of totality swept across five states.

LOOK AT THAT VIDEO! HOW AMAZING IS IT?

That moment at around 6 minutes and 30 seconds in, when the sun hits totality above the Rockies and the crowd cheers, and the news anchors gasp is just... I'm awestruck.

And millions in the U.S. will get to experience that in just a few days!

Want even more? Check out this fun 40 minutes of coverage from Winnipeg, Canada of that same eclipse, courtesy of the CBC.

Gorgeous.

As the saying goes, the cosmic ballet goes on.
