Take a road trip on the Great Ocean Road

Cruise along this 243-kilometre stretch of road in southeast Australia that goes from Torquay to Allansford for an epic road trip you won’t soon forget. Along the way, discover impressive coastal views, explore Port Campbell National Park and pay a visit to the famous Twelve Apostles, a formation of limestone rocks that have been naturally carved over time thanks to the extreme weather conditions of the Southern Ocean.

Go spelunking at the Wellington Caves and Phosphate Mines

Warning: claustrophobes may want to stay in the car. Take your travels underground at the Wellington Caves, a series of 400-million-year-old limestone dens in New South Wales. The most famous of these is Cathedral Cave, with its immense stalagmite – known as Altar Rock – that measures 32 metres around. Also nearby are the Phosphate Mines, where you can crawl through mineshafts and learn about the megafauna fossils discovered here by palaeontologists.

Snag a seat to watch these adrenaline junkies hit the gas, enjoy meet-and-greets with the drivers and see if you could hack it as one of the crew at the sweat-inducing Pirelli Pit Stop Challenge.

Get spooked at The Haunted Bookshop

Don’t believe in ghosts? Prove it. We dare you to explore The Haunted Bookshop in Melbourne without getting a tingly feeling running up your spine. Located on an otherwise peaceful street, this charming shop peddles books about spirits and magick, alongside tarot cards, gothic jewellery and other knick-knacks of the occult. There’s also a 2-hour narrated ghost tour that leaves from the store and winds its way through the historic streets of the city, into abandoned buildings and to ghost-infested pubs.

Explore the Newnes Glow Worm Tunnel

Though the Newnes railway shut down back in 1932, the tunnel it once depended upon is still very much active – with glow worms that is. Trek through the 600-metre sandstone underpass in the Wollemi National Park and see for yourself, as thousands of bioluminescent larvae squirm above your head to create a unique and unforgettable view. Elsewhere in the park are other spectacular sights, like gorges and natural scenery, so make a day of it with a bit of bushwalking.

Swim with predators in the Cage of Death

Tap into your inner crocodile hunter by taking a dip into the Cage of Death. Made with 3.8 cm-thick glass, the box at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin City lets you get up close and personal with some enormous reptiles. The cage is lowered into a massive saltwater tank – with you in it – just as the park’s monstrous, 18-foot crocodile Choppa awaits a snack that has been conveniently attached to the bottom of the cage. Just try to hold it together for 15 minutes while the beast thrashes in the water below you, a slim piece of glass all that separates you from becoming lunch.

Defy gravity at Magnetic Hill

Make the trip to rural South Australia to experience first hand the gravity-defying mystery of Magnetic Hill. Thanks to an optical illusion where a slight downhill slope appears to be an uphill one, a car parked in neutral on one of these hills will in fact look like it’s rolling up hill. Don’t believe us? Better jump in your All-New Toyota C-HR and check it out for yourself.
