He saw us off for our first day of school. He helped out with our math homework (when even he didn't really understand it). He's celebrated our wins and supported us through our loses.

No matter what, Dad was there.

Now that it's graduation season and Father's Day is on the horizon, we wanted to check in with some Dads to see what kind of advice they could impart on recent grads. Some of this #GradAdvice is par for the Dad course – slightly corny but always endearing – but some of it might surprise you.

At the end of the day, we're still convinced that Dad really does know best.

1. “Go outside, regardless of the weather. There are always new things to explore”

- Grandfather of three girls aged 4, 7 and 12

2. “Be kind, respectful and thoughtful. And stop growing so fast.”

- Father to a 5-year-old girl and 3-year old boy

3. “Never stop asking questions.”

- Uncle to an 8-year-old girl

4. “When you find what gets your adrenaline going – whether that be jumping out of airplanes or mediating a dispute between farmers – do that for a living.”

- Father to a 6-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy

5. “Don’t whine when you don’t get what you want; work harder.”

- Father of a 1-year-old rescue labrador retriever

6. “No matter what, remember that you are loved.”

7. “Control what you can control… because life will happen with or without you.”

- Father of a 25-year-old son

8. “When you first arrive at your new job, don’t be a know-it-all. Spend your first week or so watching and listening. Study the office dynamics. Learn and understand exactly what is expected of you and then organize yourself to deliver what the boss wants and then do more.”

- Father of a 22-year-old son

9. “Make sure to pack plenty of snacks, tissues and if it’s cold out, wear a hat and gloves!”

- Father of two daughters aged 4 and 6

10. “Fulfillment is often realized when self-interest vanishes in service to the greater good. That’s where happiness resides.”

- Father of 12-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl
