When you think classic rock, you probably think about Hendrix and his electric guitar, or Janis Joplin's haunting vocals.

You probably don't think of the gayageum. In fact, you've probably never heard of this obscure Korean instrument before.

YouTuber Luna Lee is here to change all that. Her covers of legendary classic rock songs on the massive stringed instrument are truly jaw-dropping.

Seriously, we could watch these all day. Here she is covering "Free Bird":

Metallica's "Enter Sandman":

Her cover of "Voodoo Child" by Jimi Hendrix has more than 4.6 million views:

She's got homages to both Prince and Leonard Cohen (sob):

Her mastery of the instrument is impressive. According to her Patreon page, Lee has been fiddling with YouTube covers since 2009.

On the same page, Lee explains how she's adapted the musical sounds of the traditional instrument for modern music.

"Playing modern music on a traditional instrument was not an easy process."

"I had to redevelop my gayageum so that the sound would match that of the modern instrument," she writes. "I had to increase the volume and pressure, develop tone and increase the sustain sound. And hoping to express the sound of gayageum more diversely like that of the guitar, I had to study guitar effectors and amplifiers and test them to see if they would fit to the sound of the gayageum. Playing modern music on a traditional instrument was not an easy process."

Hard work has paid off: Lee currently has more than 90,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel. Check out the rest of her covers and prepare to fall down a mesmerizing rabbit hole.
