Any gamer knows that reaction time is crucial. A split second can make or break a game, separating the winners from those doomed to be on potato chip and soda duty; you need to be 100 percent present at all times. Sharp, clear colours are like the secret weapons you never knew you needed – until now.
Samsung hosted an innovative event recently that helped gamers and entertainment junkies alike experience colours like never before. Held at collaborative co-working space meets art gallery COMMUNE Waterloo in Sydney, the QLED Live event immersed attendees in a visually stunning spectacle of saturation.
The four-day event helped highlight the power of the perfect hue by showcasing how vibrant colour takes gaming, movie nights, and TV-watching to a whole new level. Seriously, real life doesn’t even look this good.
Here’s what we learned:
Colours have a powerful effect on emotions
Attendees were taken on a colourful journey through various single shade rooms – white, blue, green, red, and black – so they could experience complete immersion in a particular colour along with the emotions that hue evokes.
“Unlike most events, this one was a unique, fun journey through colours. Never knew what I would find in the next room,” says Michael Anderson, better known by his YouTube moniker, UnlistedLeaf.
The first stop was a white room – a visual palate cleanser of sorts – that made guests feel like they were floating in the clouds.
In the Blue Room, they rode on a swing through the sky, while the Green Room conjured childhood memories of playing in the backyard via green grass, plants, and lawn games. The Red Room was the most high-energy room, meant to spike guests’ adrenaline with lots of glowing, flashing lights. In the Black Room, guests were enveloped in the blackest, deepest of blacks. The only light came from pinholes on the ceiling to imitate stars, mirrored to appear as if they night sky went on forever.
Gamers are geeking out about this screen
Anderson spent most of the day exploring the gaming experience with the QLED in the Green Room.
“Perched in the jungle playing FIFA, I had green grass under my feet, leaves and vines hanging from the ceiling. I was basically Tarzan,” he says.
Gamers are drawn to the QLED because of the vibrant colours, 200Hz motion rate, and HDMI auto detection, which makes it super easy to connect the TV to a console.
HDR 2000 is also pretty clutch: it allows a QLED TV to reveal every detail in bright and dark areas of the screen. A higher brightness rating (as at the Q9 at 2000 nits) allows the display to show even more of those little details that could be easily missed on a conventional TV.

“When you see QLED in person you realise how many colours a TV really does need,” says Anderson. “To my surprise the curve allows you to view it from any side of the room.”
