TOMS extends its social good mission to Apple Watch straps and fueling solar power
In the world of "buy one give one" social enterprise companies, TOMS — one of the first companies to conquer the space — reigns supreme.
The company, known for its stylish shoes and accessories as well as its emphasis on social good initiatives, just released a new line of products: Woven watch bands made for the Apple Watch. Sales of the straps benefit TOMS' Give Time initiative, which aids the organizations SolarAid and Solar Sister and help provide solar energy to underdeveloped nations in Africa. TOMS will donate the equivalent of one year's worth of solar power for each watch band sold.
Not only are these watch straps a feel-good purchase, they're quite dapper to boot.
The straps come in two price tiers: Utility ($49) and Artisan ($75). The Utility bands feature durable grosgrain fabric and leather detailing, while the Artisan straps feature full leather backing for a slightly more luxe look and feel.

The effort isn't TOMS' first foray into accessories beyond shoes: Though the brand is arguably most widely recognized for its slip-on style flats and sandals, it also makes eyewear and bags. Oh, and interestingly, coffee.
The new Apple Watch initiative arrives just in time for the holiday shopping season, making the world a little bit brighter one band at a time.
