Sony has sold 10 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide since the console launched in November, the company announced at Gamescom on Tuesday in Cologne, Germany.
The last time Sony had reported sales numbers was in April, when it had sold 7 million PlayStation 4 consoles. Based on Microsoft's Q2 earnings reports, Sony outsold Microsoft's two consoles -- the Xbox One and Xbox 360 -- 3 to 1 with its own PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

No word yet on whether Microsoft plans to release new Xbox One sales figures.
