Some people would be hard pressed to understand that American politics actually has more than two parties, but we do. So, wrapping up our series on politics in the United States, we've brought you a collection of 20+ informational sites about Independent Parties and well-known candidates. Constitution Party

ConstitutionParty.com - Ranked as the third largest political party in the United States, they have a Bible-based platform. You can see their platform here.

Constitution Party Forum - A meeting place for people to discuss everything related to the Constitution Party.

Constitution Party LiveJournal forum - LiveJournal community for those interested in the party.

Green Party

CampusGreens.org - Headquarters for setting up Green Party groups on high school and college campuses.

GP.org - Been around in some form since the 1980's and emphasize environmentalism and decentralization. Their platform can be studied here.

Greenscc.org - Home to the Green Party Congressional Campaign

Libertarian Party

Libertarian Campus Organizations - A listing of high school and college organizations around the country.

LNCC.org - Libertarian site, working on their hopes for Congressional seats.

LP.org - The Libertarian Party has over 600 elected officials, mostly at the local level, making them the most elected of the independent parties. Their national platform is viewable here.

LPedia.org - A wiki dedicated to documenting the history of the party.

Smaller Parties

AmericaPartyFirst.org - A party that splintered off of the Reform Party in 2002.

Centrist Party - Formed in 2006 in response to polls showing that 70% of the United States population labeled themselves as laying somewhere between the Republicans and Democrats.

ReformPartyUSA.org - Formed by Ross Perot in 1995, they got Jesse Ventura elected as Governor of Minnesota in 1998, but since then they have been having some inner turmoil.

Independent American Party - The Independent American Party is based on Protestant Christian theocracy.

Socialist Equality Party - A group that splintered off from the Socialist Workers Party over a difference of opinion in vision. It now runs on a platform of being opposed to the current war in Iraq.

Socialist Workers Party - A Communist party, their site is mainly their newspaper, The Militant, at this point.

US Marijuana Party - The United States Marijuana Party was formed in 2002 with the hopes of eliminating the "war on drugs" and legalize marijuana.

Well-Known Candidates

Michael Bloomberg - The current Mayor of New York City is registered as an independent.

Senator Joe Lieberman - Current Senator from Connecticut, former member of the Democrats, but sides with them still on most issues. Was Al Gore's choice for Vice President in the 2000 election.

Ralph Nader - Has made numerous runs for President, and been blamed with fracturing the vote in Florida in 2000, and costing Al Gore the election. Has run with the Green party and as non-affiliated.

Senator Bernie Sanders - Current Senator from Vermont, he is counted as a Democrat for committee assignments. He took over from a former-Republican-turned-Independent Senator, Jim Jeffords.
