Cory Wallace is a good friend, and good friends do good things for other people.
For example, sometimes good friends count down the days to your birthday ... starting a full year in advance.
Each morning for a 365 days, Wallace signed into Facebook and left a comment on his friend Dustin Buchanan's wall, detailing the number of days left until his pal's 21st birthday.
It all began with Buchanan's status update on his 20th birthday on Feb. 9, 2015.
"Let the countdown to 21 begin," he wrote, unwittingly prompting a year-long prank. Now, 365-days later, Wallace has shared a 22-page Imgur album dedicated to the joke.
"I have always had the relationship with Dustin of being the goofy friend and I just saw this as the perfect opportunity to be extremely literal," Wallace wrote to Mashable. "It honestly was extremely spontaneous and there was no real planning, just a result of my tendency to have a very literal sense of humor."
After a week, Wallace knew he'd fully committed to the joke. The posts became a habitual part of his day: wake up, comment on the countdown.
"I showed a few people as time went on the progress I was making throughout the year and their reactions always made it worth it," Wallace says. "Dustin found it extremely hilarious and multiple times mentioned it when we saw each other in person and thanked me for my dedication."
On Tuesday, the countdown finally came to a close.
"I will say that after about two months in I fully intended to post the whole thing to Imgur and it is really awesome to have it finally come to fruition," he writes.
Happy birthday, Dustin-- this is the greatest gift a friend could give.
