When you heard that the bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey will be made into a movie by the producers of The Social Network, what was your first impulse? Create a parody, of course.
The first book in the erotic trilogy by E.L. James, Fifty Shades of Grey describes the sexual adventures of college student Anastasia Steele and billionaire Christian Grey, often in explicit language that makes the plot ripe for satire. With more than 31 million copies sold worldwide, it's gaining more fans by the day -- along with an increasing number of parody YouTube skits and Twitter accounts.
Parodies have always been hit-or-miss. Selena Gomez's skit, "50 Shades of Blue," is as painfully boring as watching paint dry, which she actually does in the video. Other parody accounts, like Twitter's Mr. Christian Grey, tweet in character -- but it's mildly disturbing to see fans address the handle as if it were a real person.
