The 2012 presidential campaign and election will (at least in theory) conclude on Tuesday night, ending a months-long advertising war between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Like the Iowa caucuses and party conventions, a deluge of TV advertising is one of the hallmarks of every presidential election cycle. Some spots overtly build up one candidate, while others overtly tear one down; all spots, implicitly, do both.
