Life's too short to eat mediocre ice cream, so churn your own.

Listen, we're not saying that your supermarket's two-for-one deals on ice cream cartons aren't an absolute steal. But if you really want ice cream that's rich, creamy and free of ingredients that you can't even pronounce, then homemade is the way to go.

Once you figure out the ice cream base (typically just egg yolks, cream, milk and sugar), there's an endless amount of flavor combinations you can experiment with. Coffee, lavender, lemon-- just find what's fresh at the farmer's market and go. But for a little guidance, Mashable asked chefs at the the Institute of Culinary Education to share their favorite recipes.
