Eleven years ago Tuesday, terrorists hijacked four cross-country airplanes, crashing two into New York's World Trade Center, one into Washington's Pentagon and another into an eastern-Pennsylvania field. To memorialize the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, New York-based Instagram photographer John de Guzmán (@johndeguzman) began shooting a series of photos Friday captioned with phrases beginning "Never ...."
"I was already sort of emotional about 9/11 so I decided a standard photo required a more personal caption, and I went with 'Never stop loving,'" Guzmán told Mashable. "I decided to really see the city this weekend, and force myself with each photo to think about 'how does this make New York?'"
Monday night, Guzmán captioned a photo "Never forget," clarifying the theme of his weekend's Instagram stream. He plans to shift the captions Tuesday from "Never ..." to "Always ...."

Guzmán, who has an Instagram following of more than 25,000, shot a widely-circulated image of the "skies opening up" above Ground Zero in 2010, and has devoted significant attention toward 9/11 photography.

Other Memorials
In addition to Guzmán's Instagram memorial, several New York institutions are using digital tools to remember the victims.
Monday, the New York Police Department began a Twitter tribute to the fallen officers.
