Clarence Blackmon, a veteran with terminal cancer, came home on Tuesday after a treatment to an empty refrigerator. Luckily, with a little help, he didn't have to go hungry.

The 81-year-old from Fayetteville, North Carolina, made a call to 911 dispatch, hoping to find some help. According to the call he made, he had no food or water in his house, and he could not leave because he was unable to get up from his chair.

Blackmon's call to 911 can be listened to below:

Marilyn Hinson, who works for the 911 dispatch in Fayetteville, was moved by Blackmon's call and decided to buy him some groceries. "I've been hungry. A lot of people can't say that, but I can, and I can't stand for anyone to be hungry," Hinson said to ABC 11.

Hinson and a few police officers volunteered to pick up the groceries and bring them to Blackmon's house. Blackmon only requested a few simple items, and the volunteers not only personally delivered what he needed, but Hinson made him several ham sandwiches to make sure he had a few pre-made meals.

"It was like a little miracle ringing in my ear," Blackmon told ABC 11.

Blackmon will be getting a home care nurse soon to help him and prevent a situation like this from happening in the future.
