U.N. Premieres 'A Better Place' on Mashable for Human Rights Day

The United Nations is releasing "A Better Place," the latest installment of Playing For Change -- an initiative to connect the world through music -- on Mashable for International Human Rights Day. "A Better Place" unites 29 lesser known musicians from across the globe, performing the same song in their native country.

Monday's premiere coincides with International Human Rights Day, Dec. 10. The partnership between Playing For Change and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund uses music to raise awareness of social and economic inequality issues based on race, religion, ethnicity and gender.

The U.N. hopes the music video will ignite social discussion of global inequalities around the hashtag #ABetterPlace.

The 46 performers in "A Better Place" appear in Colombia, Ireland, Japan, Cuba, Thailand, Senegal and Egypt, among several other countries.

Playing For Change has been releasing similar music videos annually since 2008. The first installment, "Stand By Me," has been viewed more than 46 million times on YouTube. Cumulatively, all of the Playing For Change videos have received more than 100 million views on the social video platform.
