UK company Datawind has launched its Aakash 2 tablet in India. It's an Android device that will be available to students at an extremely low price.
The Aakash 2 can be bought for Rs 3,500 ($64) on the market, but it will cost the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development Rs 2,263 ($41), and with government subsidies it will be available to students at only Rs 1,130 ($21)
The Aakash 2 tablet sports a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of memory (expandable to 32GB via a microSD card) and a 7-inch capacitive display with a 800×480 pixel resolution -- not exactly top of the line, but enough to get most tasks done.
