The alphabet just got pretty far out.

In her new picture book ABC Dream, artist Kim Krans puts a creative and occasionally surreal twist on learning your ABCs. Rather than straightforward illustrations, Krans created mesmerizing ink-and-water artwork highlighting each letter.

"While drawing ABC Dream I thought about my dear friends who were becoming first time moms," says Krans. "They were (and still are) artistic, fashionable, aesthetically minded ladies ... I wanted to draw them an alphabet book that they were enchanted by, one that gave them a break from the typical take on the ABCs."

This adult-centric approach affected more than just the art direction of ABC Dream though. In addition to featuring a mature art style, Krans also included visual Easter eggs for grown-up readers.

"I was interested in ABC Dream not only teaching the alphabet, but also introducing concepts. The H page 'turns' with hinges, the C page has corners, and puzzle pieces are missing from the P page. Maybe they don’t understand it at first. Maybe it only awakens a sense of wonder."

Take a look at some of Krans' illustrations below -- and see if you can find all of the visual puns scattered throughout each drawing.
