For the last few years, Adidas has made a point of showing how interested it is in harnessing technology to enhance its sportswear products.
Today, the company has ratcheted up its forward-thinking efforts by unveiling a concept service it calls Futurecraft 3D, a 3D printing service that creates bespoke midsoles for your Adidas sneakers.

The idea is that a customer would come into an Adidas location, have their feet scanned and then have that data used to construct a perfectly form-fitting midsole, no matter what the style of Adidas sneaker.
However, the key to the concept is that the scanning process would not be limited to a static 3D model of your feet. Adidas' special locations would allow you to conduct a test run on a treadmill. After your run, Adidas would use your performance data to craft the midsole that delivers the best running midsole for your particle stride.
"Futurecraft 3D is a prototype and a statement of intent. We have used a one-of-its-kind combination of process and material in an entirely new way," said Eric Liedtke, executive board member of Adidas AG, in an emailed statement.
"Our 3D-printed midsole not only allows us to make a great running shoe, but also to use performance data to drive truly bespoke experiences, meeting the needs of any athlete."
At present, no details beyond the concept video have been revealed regarding how the scanning to fabrication process would take place. Nor has the company released a date for when the concept might become a reality. For now, the idea is simply a part of the company's Futurecraft series, in which Adidas offers a peek at some of the future innovations it has in mind.
"We have not yet set a market launch date for stores," an Adidas spokesperson told Mashable. "But [we] are planning to make further announcements in early 2016."
