The Tesla Model S P85D can go from zero to 60 mph in as little as 3.3 seconds -- with the press of its so-called "Insane" button.

That we already knew. Now, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims it's about to get even faster.

On Thursday, in Musk's latest dramatic reveal, he tweeted that the electric Model S P85D's acceleration will improve by about 0.1 seconds with an automatic software update. He also pointed out that the "insane" speed was a side-effect of another feature.

Tesla P85D 0 to 60mph acceleration will improve by ~0.1 sec soon via over-the-air software update to inverter algorithm— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 29, 2015

Tesla dual motor cars are also all-wheel drive. Main goal of dual motor was actually insane traction on snow. Insane speed was a side effect— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 29, 2015

P85 acceleration will also improve, but not quite as much— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 29, 2015

Perhaps more insane is the fact that this will happen with an over-the-air update. We're used to updating our phones and computers this way. But to get a car to accelerate faster, you'd expect to take it into some kind of auto shop.

Musk -- also the founder of SpaceX -- is known for unusual ideas and proclamations. For example, he's said that he would like to die on Mars; more recently, he revealed his fears of what artificial intelligence "demons" could do to humanity in the next five years.

In this case, however, there's little doubt we'll see an already-super-fast car accelerate slightly faster just by getting a software update -- no killer robots required.
