Before Snape, there was Hans.
Alan Rickman, an actor and giant of theater and film, passed away Thursday at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer. Throughout the course of his career, Rickman played countless memorable roles in addition to his signature character, Harry Potter's Severus Snape.
From the villainous Hans Gruber in Die Hard to the melancholy Marvin in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Rickman's characters were always pitch perfect.
And maybe a little magical, too -- even when they weren't wizards.
