BlackBerry Creative Director Alicia Keys Blames Hackers for iPhone Tweets

Story Updated 2/14/13 2:29AM

Singer Alicia Keys, BlackBerry's new Global Creative Director, found herself in a social-media scandal after allegedly tweeting from an iPhone, and then blaming the incident on hackers.

The stray tweet, which appears to be sent from Twitter's iPhone app Monday but was later deleted, quoted lyrics from rapper Drake's song: "Started from the bottom now were [sic] here!"

Keys claimed her account was hacked less than an hour later:

What the h*ll?!!!!Looks like I've been hacked... I like @drake but that wasn't my tweet:-(— Alicia Keys (@aliciakeys) February 11, 2013

Keys announced her new role at the BlackBerry 10 launch event last month, and said she was "exclusively dating" the smartphone after its revamp. Just last January, however, Keys expressed love for the iPhone on her Google+ account.

A spokesperson told Mashable Wednesday that "Alicia Keys no longer has an iPhone and uses her BlackBerry Z10 exclusively." The spokesperson added that Keys stopped using her iPhone right before the BlackBerry 10 launch.

A source close to the singer told Mashable that the renegade tweet came from TweetDeck, and that Keys recently changed her Twitter password to prevent further hacking. A screenshot of Keys' tweet, however, indicates that it was sent "via Twitter for iPhone."

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that TweetDeck was a third-party app. Twitter purchase TweetDeck in 2011.
