Amazon Now Has More Than 100,000 Employees

Amazon's headcount surpassed 100,000 in the last quarter, a milestone the company quietly recorded in its third-quarter earnings.

The company now has 109,800 full-time and part-time employees, compared to 97,000 last quarter. The figure doesn't include the 70,000 that the company plans to work during the holiday season on a temporary basis.

By hitting six figures, Amazon joins a short list of tech companies including Foxconn, which has 940,000 employees, IBM (433,000), Samsung (371,000) Hewlett-Packard (331,800), Panasonic (328,000), Fujitsu (173,000) and Dell (106,000).

The company is also the largest tech employer in the Seattle area, now that it has surpassed Microsoft's 90,000.
