Report: Amazon Building Its Own Android Console

Amazon may be working on its own Android gaming console, according to a report released by Game Informer that cites sources "with knowledge of in-development hardware."

Game Informer states the console would be available around Black Friday of this year. The console would leverage titles already available on its platform and offer a daily free app. The console would also have its own controller, the report states.

Amazon already has plenty of its own hardware with the Kindle and Kindle Fire lines, so it's not unreasonable to assume a console could be on the horizon. However, the Android console market is already a crowded field. OUYA, Nvidia's Shield and Gamepop already have consoles on shelves, and GameStick's will debut later this month. Rumors that Google is developing its own gaming console also surfaced in July.

Mashable reached out to Amazon for comment and will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
