Amazon.com went down for about 20 minutes, and the world freaked out

Amazon.com went down for some users on Thursday afternoon for approximately 20 minutes before being restored.

Users trying to access the Amazon website as well as the mobile app at around 2:20 p.m. ET were greeted with error messages.

Site checkers also listed the domain Amazon.com as down.

About 20 minutes later the website was accessible by Mashable, and many users reported on Twitter that they could access Amazon.com once again.

During the outage, many users took to Twitter to vent their frustration:

Although Amazon.com went down, it appears Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud hosting service that many major web services depend on -- including Foursquare, Pinterest and Yelp -- is working normally, according to the AWS Status Dashboard.

Representatives for Amazon didn't immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment.
