Amazon Launches Imprint for Comics, Graphic Novels

Amazon continues to build out its in-house publishing division with the Tuesday launch of its tenth imprint, Jet City Comics, for comics and graphic novels.

The retail giant has signed on several well-known authors, including Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin (above) and Snow Crash author Neal Stephenson, to translate their work into graphic novel form with the help of comics writers, artists and translators.

Martin's short story, "Meathouse Man," will be released as a graphic novel in October. Amazon is also reviving Martin's earlier out-of-print graphic novels The Hedge Knight and The Sworn Sword and publishing them in print and digital formats in November and early 2014, respectively.

The imprint's first release, which is already available in the Kindle Store, is Symposium #1, an original story part of the Foreworld series.
