Amazon may hike the price of its popular Prime service by between $20 and $40 due to rising shipping and fuel costs.

CFO Tom Szkutak broached the possible cost increase during a call held by Amazon executives following the release of disappointing fourth-quarter earnings. Amazon shares dipped sharply but rebounded to trade around 4% lower after normal market hours.

Prime is currently priced at $79 per year and provides two-day shipping on Amazon orders at no additional cost, and provides access to a variety of streaming media.
