American Airlines will begin offering nonstop service between Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia, beginning in December.

The carrier announced the daily route in conjunction with Australia-based Qantas, which will restart nonstop service between Sydney and San Francisco.

The two airlines are partners and members of the oneworld airline alliance.

"Our customers have asked us to expand to important business destinations across the Pacific, and flying our flagship aircraft, the Boeing 777-300ER, to Sydney will provide another world-class travel experience from our key gateway at LAX," Doug Parker, chairman and CEO of American, said in a statement.

American's flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Sydney Airport will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER, which has First, Business, Main Cabin Extra and economy seating.

Qantas will operate the Sydney to San Francisco route on a reconfigured Boeing 747-400.

American is looking to expand it's trans-Pacific flight offerings to compete with larger rivals. In May, the carrier began new daily nonstop service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Beijing.

With its Qantas partnership, American is promoting the many destinations that are a short connection from Sydney. The route beginning in December will be American's only nonstop route between the U.S. and Australia.
