When the beloved Grumpy Cat appeared on American Idol on Wednesday, the show's judges -- Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. -- swiftly snapped selfies with the feline. Not wanting to miss a moment, the people backstage in the control room frantically maneuvered cameras to capture the madness.

Country crooner Urban, in the above video shared first with Mashable, takes us inside the control room, where the many screens directors and producers worked to ensure audiences saw the antics from season 13.

The clip, featuring control room commentary from director Louis J. Horvitz, is part of Urban's new "Idle Chatter" series of behind-the-scenes YouTube videos.
