After seemingly endless weeks of musical covers, the big race had come down to 22-year-old Clark Beckham and 29-year-old Nick Fradiani.
Prior to the finale, oddsmaker Gold Derby had boy-next-door Clark as the overwhelming favorite to win, but in the end, it was Nick who took home the coveted title.
It can be speculated that the result was at least in part due to the elimination of Jax, a rock singer whose fans likely favored Nick's style over Clark's soulful tone.
But regardless of the reason, Clark's fans were not happy about the outcome.

Disappointed with #IdolFinale because hands down Clark is more talented vocally but that doesn't matter when you don't have " #thelook "— Marsha'e Latrice (@ILuv_Wrestling) May 14, 2015
Now Clark can get signed by people who believe in him & understand him as an artist. Not those who will force him into a pop box. #stillWins— A.J. Addinall (@AJAddinall) May 14, 2015

Of course, not everyone on Twitter was upset. Nick had his share of supporters, including judge Jennifer Lopez.
