In what's being called a "network first," YouTube has revealed that America's Got Talent is looking for its next big star via the online platform, as a special AGT/YouTube performance show will be aired on NBC on August 10.

In total, 12 acts will be selected to perform live on the show, one of which will be chosen by YouTube voters. Those interested in applying have until June 23 to submit their 90-second video entry via AGT's YouTube channel, with the public vote due to kick off on June 28.

"We need singers, musicians, and dancers, but we also need variety performers like animal acts, jugglers, magicians, comedians, and performance artists," says America's Got Talent. "However weird, unique or wonderful your act, if you think you are talented, we want to see you! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could change your life forever!"

The move to online video could be seen as an attempt to match the popularity that American Idol has seen on YouTube with performances from the likes of Lady Gaga racking up millions of views. Meanwhile, AGT's sister-series, Britain's Got Talent, is familiar with the power of online video -- singer Susan Boyle became a breakout success on YouTube.

So if you need to be convinced any further to perform your party trick to the viewing public, here's the official video message to encourage you to do so...
