After weeks of speculation, Google has finally confirmed the candy-themed name for the newest version of Android: Marshmallow.

Until now, Google had only revealed its nickname, "M," for the upcoming Android 6.0, which has been available to developers since May.

Google's Product Manager for Android, Jamal Eason, revealed the name in a blog post Monday announcing the final preview version of the upcoming operating system.

"Today with the final Developer Preview update, we're introducing the official Android 6.0 SDK and opening Google Play for publishing your apps that target the new API level 23 in Android Marshmallow," Eason wrote on the Android Developers Blog.

The upcoming version of Android will come with a suite of improvements, including improved battery life, more control over app permissions and Android Pay, Google's new mobile payments platform.

The company hasn't revealed when Marshmallow will officially roll out to Android users but That the developer preview has moved into the final preview version signals the company is closer than ever to the beginning of the consumer rollout. Last year's launch of Android Lollipop was widely criticized for its buggy rollout so Google is likely taking extra time to make sure Marshmallow's debut goes more smoothly.

Google promised during this year's I/O Developers conference that the launch of Android 6.0 would be the "most polished Android release to date."
