Google announced hitting a major milestone on Wednesday: one billion active Android users.

The stat was revealed by Sundar Pichai, Google's head of Android, during Google's big I/O developer conference in San Francisco on Wednesday. Researchers had predicted that Google would hit the one billion mark sometime this year.

Apple, by comparison, recently announced having sold "well over" 800 million iOS devices to date, though it didn't reveal how many monthly active iOS users there are.

Google also revealed a couple other eye-popping stats for the platform, including that Android users send 20 billion texts per day and 93 million selfies.
