Grotesque art shows animal crackers as living creatures

Neither delicious nor nutritious, animal crackers are nevertheless an enduring and popular snack. From a young age, we've come to recognize them as our favorite zoo animals.

But take another look at the average animal cracker. How well does that really resemble a living creature?

After an extended investigation, we determined that animal crackers may not actually be based on common species like lions, tigers and zebras. No, they're modeled on hideous, cookie-colored, hairless beasts that walk the world in shame.
