Animation Shows How Your Face Develops in the Womb [VIDEO]

Face it: You once looked like an alien. It's OK. We all went through an awkward phase according to this animation from the BBC series Inside the Human Body.

The time-lapse video shows how a human fetus develops between one and three months of age. The makers of the video used virtual sculptures that were based on various stages of development and then combined by "mapping hundreds of points to corresponding dots on the other models," according to The New Scientist.

The attention to detail yields an interesting insight: Your face doesn't so much grow as it "fits together like a puzzle," as the video explains. Three primary features "meet in the middle of your top lip, creating the groove that is your philtrum," it continues.
