The Spanish police have arrested three suspected hackers who allegedly helped attack Sony as well as other corporate and government websites.
According to a police statement, the suspects are part of Anonymous, a loosely affiliated group of hackers known for attacking corporate and government organizations for political reasons.
Police found chat logs that discuss attacks on the Spanish electoral board and police websites on a server they confiscated from one of the suspects. Evidence of cyberattacks on the PlayStation online store, two Spanish banks, an Italian energy company and government sites in Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Iran, Chile, Colombia and New Zealand were also discovered, the police said.
It is still not clear what role the suspects, or Anonymous, played in cyberattacks on Sony. The company's PlayStation Network shut down for more than a month after a hacker attack in April compromised information from millions of user accounts. According to the New York Times, about a dozen Sony websites and services around the world have been hacked.
