AOL Social Mail is the name of a Vista gadget which will enable AOL users to quickly access their email, IM, photos and video. The gadget is based on Microsoft Silverlight technology, and if you want to try it out, you can do it here. Bear in mind that this is only a preview version and that you need to have Vista to use it. According to the official AOL dev site, it will be officially available mid-May.

AOL Social Mail will support skins (it will initially come with two skins: surfboards and guitars). Also, it will have a feature called the A-List - a shortlist of contacts that are really important to you. The gadget will automatically create an A-List for you by checking out which contacts you communicate with most often; of course, you will be able to add or remove people from your A-List as you please. Users will be able to send messages, e-mails, photos and videos to people on their A-List with a single click.
