AOL Launches Spanish Web Portal

AOL has launched a portal for Spain offering local content, email, instant messaging, and other standard AOL features. The news follows last week’s announcement that AOL was launching an Italian portal. Today’s news is almost identical, and the site – AOL.es – is laid out exactly the same as its Italian counterpart (AOL.it).

As noted last week, AOL is experiencing slower growth than its peers in online advertising in the US. Rolling out new portals to the quickly growing Western Europe market seems to make sense for AOL and they appear to have found a formula for launching them quickly, with sites now live in the UK, France, the Netherlands and several other countries.

AOL continues to move towards an advertising-based model, with news yesterday indicating that the company it looking to sell its access business within the next 12-18 months.
