AOL UnCut, which has been in beta for over a year, is finally scheduled to launch next month, according to Chief Online Video executive at AOL Fred McIntyre.

UnCut started with some dismal functionality, and lacked the features necessary to compete with the likes of YouTube, but the service has since improved. You can read our initial review here. AOL's biggest strong point is its existing network and communication tools, including AIM and its Video network, not to mention its access to copyrighted content and brand permissions. This business strategy is what will essentially make AOL UnCut successful in its own right. Having this distribution network that takes content to the applications that people already use is most helpful, and makes up for the late arrival of AOL's service on the scene.

Other attempts to YouTube Killers include Pirate Bay's upcoming streaming service, and the joint effort of News Corp. and NBC.
