It's Official: App Store Breaks 100,000 Apps

When you consider that Apple hit the 65,000 app mark in August, the continued development pace is nothing short of outstanding. Although some might argue that as a phone, the iPhone comes up short, as an application platform, it's the leader of the pack.

148Apps.biz has broken down the applications in the US App Store by price, category and release date (hat-tip to Phillip Elmer-DeWitt). According to 148App.biz's charts, Games take up the largest percentage of iPhone apps, with 16% of the total. Entertainment and Books follow with 13% each.

When it comes to pricing, the average iPhone app is $2.54 -- selling on volume it would seem is the secret to most of the App Store success stories.
