Apple's App Store Sales Topped $10 Billion in 2013 for First Time

Apple's App Store had its first $10 billion year.

Apple announced Tuesday morning that sales in the App Store topped $10 billion in 2013, setting a new annual record for the company, with sales in December alone topping $1 billion.

“We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store,” Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services, said in a statement. “The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

To date, Apple says it has paid out $15 billion to app developers, up from $13 billion in October.

The 2013 year ended on a strong note for app stores in general, with one app analytics company reporting record app downloads on Christmas Day this year.
