Apple still has its eye on buying Beats, but the price tag for the deal appears to be coming down.

The New York Post reports hearing that Apple has cut its proposed acquisition price for Beats from $3.2 billion to about $3 billion. Even at the lower price tag, however, the Beats deal would still represent Apple's largest acquisition to date by far.

Reps for Apple and Beats did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

According to The Post, Apple had not begun the due diligence process looking into Beats' business at the time the deal first leaked earlier this month. Since then, The Post notes the deal may have been hurt by a report that Beats' streaming music service has just 110,000 subscribers.

Billboard also reported last week that news of the deal had leaked prematurely, before Apple had fully parsed through Beats' business. That report also noted that the deal may have been complicated by a video shared online that appeared to show Beats' founder Dr. Dre confirming the deal.

"Apparently, the Apple family near imploded with outrage when that video went up on Facebook of an ‘excited’ Dr. Dre with R&B singer/former Coca Cola pin-up Tyrese," Billboard reported.

For all of those hiccups, though, these and other outlets report hearing that the deal is still expected to happen.
