Apple introduced a slick-looking News app set on Monday that will launch with iOS 9 later this year.

The News app, which was announced on stage at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), looks a bit as if Facebook's Instant Articles and Flipboard made a baby.

Participating publications such as New York Times, Wired and ESPN will be able to publish content directly to the platform.

Publishers will be able to draw (and keep) revenue from ads in the new app. Although publishers will be able to sell ads in the new app, we didn’t see any on screen during Apple’s demo.

The app looks strikingly similar to Flipboard, a news aggregated app that pulls in content from around the web and presents it to users in a magazine-style format. Just like FLipboard, users will be able to select topics and specific publications to follow.

Apple is also eliminating its Newsstand app, which was developed to serve as a home for all news content. The app never took off; it hid publisher apps and users could not remove it.
