Apple Delays iPhone 5 Pre-Order Shipments Nearly a Month

If you're thinking about pre-ordering an iPhone 5 online, it now looks like you have to wait up to a month to get it.

Apple's website now notes that ordering any of the iPhone 5 models -- 16GB, 32GB and 64GB -- will take up to three to four weeks to ship.

The news comes just days after the company announced pre-orders for its latest smartphone model topped 2 million in the first 24 hours of availability. Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 more than doubled the previous record held by the iPhone 4S, which sold one million devices on the first pre-ordering day. Not to mention the device sold out within an hour.

If anything is implied by Apple's move to push back shipment for up to four weeks, it's that the company can barely keep up with the demand. The company hasn't responded to a request for comment.

According to analysts, the iPhone 5 is expected to become the fastest-selling gadget of all time and could sell 58 million units (or $32.5 billion).
