An Apple I motherboard just fetched a whopping $374,500 at auction, an unheard-of sale price in the tech world, where computers depreciate super fast with the release of newer models.
But it's a different story when said computer is an original Apple 1 that was personally built by Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
In the early days of Apple, Steve Wozniak made each computer by hand, and only a small number of Apple 1 computers were ever built. According to Sotheby's auction house, this particular item was "sold without a keyboard, monitor, case or power supply." Fifty Apple 1 computers are known to still exist, with only six known to be in working order.
Although this auction was just for the motherboard, the seller has promised to install it into a computer and get it up and running. The names of both the seller and buyer have been withheld.
