You know how Tim Cook said that Apple would start to improve iCloud security in the wake of those stolen celebrity nude photographs?
Well, it's already starting. As first spotted by Mac Rumors, Apple is now sending out email alerts to users when someone logs in to iCloud accounts from the web.
I decided to test out the new notification by logging into iCloud.com from both my iTunes account and my iCloud account.
The iCloud account (which has its own email address), was hit with this email a few moments later:
According to last week's interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple will also be sending users alerts when logging in from a new device or when a device is restored from a backup.
Apple already sends alerts to users when a password is changed, a verified device is added or deleted, or a new recovery key is generated.
These are all good steps, but we still think Apple needs to improve its security transparency and increase how its two-factor verification actually works.
It would also be good if Apple offered users access to a log of devices/locations where accounts have recently been accessed, similar to what Google and Dropbox do.
