Since the dawn of the Internet, we've been at war.

The argument remains over the proper pronunciation of the Internet's most prized file format, GIF -- and even Apple can't decide what's correct.

It's worth noting here that Apple’s Craig Federighi pronounces gif with a *hard G* — like grass, goose or ghostbusters.— Mashable Tech (@mashabletech) October 16, 2014

During the company's iPad Event on Thursday, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi pronounced GIF with a hard G. He was followed by CEO Tim Cook, who pronounced it as "JIF," hinting that the pronunciation wars have even breached the inner and highest circles of Apple.

Many thought the confusion between "JIF" vs. "GIF" was over, especially when the creator of the format, Steve Wilhite, cleared up the debate with his short speech while accepting his Lifetime Achievement Award at the Webby Awards in 2013. ""It's pronounced JIF, not GIF".

But some people, including President Obama, refuse to listen to Wilhite's firm stance, and they continue rebel, pronouncing GIF with a hard "G" like it's no big thing. Even Federighi's dad jokes during the event are more forgivable.

When will the agony end?
