Apple is reportedly getting ready to launch a directory for its iPhone applications for users to be able to access applications for use on their handhelds. This has not yet been confirmed, but it's been rumored that Apple reps are in the process of tracking down creators and developers of iPhone apps and requesting screenshots, icons, web addresses and descriptions of their iPhone apps.

What's more, some are saying that this is another form of regulation in regards to the types of applications that can be used for the iPhone. In promoting web-based applications and providing them direct access to iPhone users, Apple will be indirectly discouraging the use of native applications.

There are also reports that Apple has been working with a few people over at Danger for the production of official iPhone applications, which would tie in to all of this current speculation quite nicely.
