Apple's proposed project for a new campus in Cupertino, Calif., has received the final stamp of approval from the City Council, San Jose Mercury News reports.
The Cupertino City Council approved Apple's campus project in October 2013, two years after Steve Jobs announced the construction plans, but one final voting was needed for the project to get the green light.

Apple's new headquarters -- informally called the "spaceship campus" due to its oval shape -- include the 2.8 million square foot, glass-sheathed oval main building, whose 3D renderings were revealed in October, and an underground parking lot that can hold 2,400 vehicles. The campus will include a 100,000 square foot fitness center and a 120,000 square foot auditorium; additionally, Apple plans to build another 600,000 square feet worth of office and R&D buildings.
Though it was originally planned to open in 2015, due to delays the building is now expected to open mid-2016.
