Wait, iPhone 7? Isn't the Sept. 9 Apple event about the (very likely) release of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus? Well, yes, but a new report looks beyond that, to 2016, when Apple might release the next, extremely thin iteration of the iPhone.

According to AppleInsider, which quotes a report from KGI Securities's analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to make the iPhone 7 between 6.0 and 6.5 millimeters thick.

That's quite a bit thinner than the iPhone 6, which is 6.9mm thick (the iPhone 6 Plus is 2 millimeters thicker at 7.1mm). However, it's not very hard to imagine, as the latest version of Apple's iPod touch, which has a 4-inch screen is exactly 6.1mm thin. In other words, if you're wondering how the iPhone 7 might look like, just imagine a larger iPod touch.

This will be made possible by the use of super-durable 7000 series aluminum alloy, which is rumored to be used in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus' cases as well (therefore making the devices less susceptible to bending).

No other details were shared about the iPhone 7 in the report.

Apple rumors, especially those that look so far in the future, should always be taken with a big chunk of salt. Ming-Chi Kuo has a solid track record, though -- he predicted the 12-inch Retina MacBook in Oct. 2013, more than a year before it was released in March 2015.
