Strangely in this case it's not even all that unprecedented, given Wired and Time's unveiling of Tablet-formatted content late last year. And just like those examples, Stand Alone claims it has no advance notice on hardware or specs from Apple. A PR representative told Joystiq, "However, based on the general consensus available publicly, the tablet device is almost guaranteed in our opinion. Thus, the developer has prudently begun work on a new design for the game, in order to take advantage of the expected increase of real estate."

The current version of Crosswords for iPhone allows users to download and work on the daily crosswords from more than 30 newspapers, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Onion and more. President of Stand Alone Ben Gottlieb said of the announcement, "the main constraint in developing a Crossword app for mobile devices has been the distinct lack of screen real estate." A mythical device with a 10-inch screen could certainly help solve that.
